It's not my fault I'm late. Gosh!
Cut of the Month is DOTTED LINE from a studio project I mixed. Really good
stuff, influenced by Sigur Ros - give it a listen.
December was a month of involved projects, starting out with massive
tracking for SHEA and NICK (they have everything but a name), who are
heavily influenced by Radiohead. Check them out.
UPSKIRTS started their new conceptual project from the perspective of a
pre-teen's infatuation with a local school girl, a particular slice of
bloody hell you may remember well from your own days gone by. Or,
not. Either way, think Jam or Buzzcocks and you have a close sounds-like idea.
December and 2004 ended in the frigid blue of Portland, Maine, where I
recorded CERBERUS SHOAL's next global attack. Their CSN/ Flaming Lips/
Polyphonic Spree/ Residents influences creep through loud and clear on this
project.
KEXP mixes were accomplished via live remote from the Showbox with MATT
SHAW, DOLOUR and the SHACKLES. Also appearing that night and mixed by
Kevin Suggs was Goodness, Long Winters, and the Hot Rollers. We had a
great turn out and everyone had a blast.
I also managed to squeeze in a normal in-studio with MS. LED. Fun stuff.
FEAR OF DOLLS finished mixing their latest project and mastering of a
previous project. Fans of Swans, Alice Cooper or Christian Death take heed.
Being away from my beloved Jaye over the New Year, I utilized the time
alone to troll for "best of" lists by people I respect. Alas, t'was a bad
idea - it reminded me of how little I have in common, musically, with most
people I know. But being an outsider has never bothered me much - in fact,
I've made a career of blazing my own trail - so for what it's worth, here
are my picks for 2004, in no particular order.
