CUT OF THE MONTH is a marvelous melding of familiar TV show theme songs and classic keyboards - the brainchild of The Jeff Fielder Band. Created for some TV show called "Bucket of Cheese", The Jeff Fielder Band actually brought a Hammond (with Leslie), Moog, Clavinette (ala The Partridge Family) and a Rhodes piano in to the studio for that classic 1970s theme song feel. Fantastic! Boogie oogie oogie!

MURGATROID (Julian Martlew) was in working on his #1 hit single with Erik Iverson (of Wicker Palate) providing the drum tracks. Reminiscent of Lenny Kravitz with classic R&B/Motown production values, I think you'll be hearing it on your local radio station soon.

OTA PROTA was in for a full week tracking material for their upcoming release. I hear traces of Tortoise and Santana here, but the music of undeniably original.

ERIC LANZILLOTTA in for a quick tape transfer of his Water Tower recordings, which have already been pressed on a keen 10" record (available from Anomalous Records).

Speaking of 10"ers, CLIMAX GOLDEN TWINS' Volume 3 of their 10" series is now available, also through Anomalous. This zany edition features drunken recordings of yours truly with a crowd of two at a classic Rendezvous show with CGT. Kinda embarrassing, but great fun to listen to.

KENUI ULLIN (Hell's Half Halo) sent in two GATE cd's, which I mastered for later release. These Morley projects consist of repetitive loops and ambient drum rythmns - facinating stuff.

EYVIND KANG (violin) , MIKE BISIO (bass), CHARLIE GOCHER (drums) and TIM YOUNG (guitar) came in for a straight-to-DAT live recording of a 74min improv jam session, which was summed up by the players, once the smoke had cleared, with "That's weird", "What do we do with it?" and "Hmm."

FAINTLY MACABRE came in to redo the vocals track for their recording. Their material reminds me of early Alice Cooper with Henry Rollins lyrics and Codeine's vocal stylings.

LORI GOLDSTON (cello), ELIZABETH FALCONER (koto) and ED PIAS (pakhawaj) were in for a live-to-DAT recording on the eve of Ed's departure to Bangladesh. We will miss him, already do!

The ol' Gulbranson spinet has been loved back into working order by piano tech Tim Randall. Every single elbow was replaced, and the 1954 classic is now tuned back to original brilliance.

I went to On the Boards to record a live improv between ANGELINA BALDOZ (trumpet) and PAUL HOSKINS (contra bass clarinet) for Kristen Haptke's dance performance later this year. This session was held amid the sticky goo of the previous nights performance by Karen Finley... there was honey all over the floor!

Similarly, MAUREEN WHITING and CLIMAX GOLDEN TWINS edited their sound track for Maureen's upcoming dance performance.

You may have seem me running around town recording ambient sounds for the Chip and Friends CD-ROM, which is forthcoming. The goal of this CD-ROM is to teach computer etiquette to children.

The studio is now getting a facelift, and will return with an open house party in which I will play the Flaming Lips CD set "Zaireeka" in complete sync! This CD set consists of four CD's designed to be played at the same time. The unfortunate side of this is that no two CD players play at the same speed, so on my 33 1/3 birthday we had a little trouble getting the discs to play in synche. No worries, though - I loaded them all into ProTools and dumped them back out to an ADAT in perfect sync. Details will be forthcoming!
