The cut of the month is IN CAVES - "Mr. Lonely". This Seattle band writes really catchy rock dittys. I really like the lyrics to this one about Jesus blowing into town and needing to open a checking account. At times this band reminds me of Pearl Jam, but I _like_ this band!!
The first half of the month was spent moving the control room down to the new digs. It was a really weird moment to disconnect mic cables knowing that there was no turning back. As I fed the cables through the floor, I thought, "if this doesn't work...I'm fucked!". Luckily it all worked out great. I just need to put the final detail work on everything and then we'll have a party.
The second half of the month was spent in NY with the good ship ANIMAL COLLECTIVE mixing their new record which is due out in September. As much as we tried to make an all analog record, when we got into the mix, it was clear that instant recall was more necessary than sticking to the plan, so the tracks made it into a ProTool HD rig, which maintained the tape sound quite well. We still mixed through a Trident with Uptown automation to 1/2" tape.
Maybe one day some band somewhere will let me recording them all analog with a MONO mix. Now _that_ would be obtuse.
WIZARD PRISON's CD release party for "II" will be on July 7th, 2007 (777) in Seattle at the SS Marie Antoinette with FOREST OF GREY and hopefully a stand up comedian. It is a free show and also all ages.
There is an article about us coming out in the May/ June issue of THE FADER magazine and we will be hitting the road in September to play in Vancouver, BC, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Tucson. Maybe a few other points in between.
I'm baffled by this, but the Arcade Fire record peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts. I'm not sure what to make of that.
