OPEN HOUSE!! OPEN HOUSE!! OPEN HOUSE!! OPEN HOUSE!! Friday June 2nd, 2000. Contact us for directions at:

The Studio will be open all day from noon to midnight, so come by and say hey at any time. Know, though, that at 9pm an eight channel sound system will spew forth the FLAMING LIPS' "Zaireeka" CD in complete and perfect sync! This CD is a four disc set that was designed to be played simultaneously. Of course, this requires four stereo systems, and we got 'em and it's mind-blowing and you should be there! RSVP, whydoncha!

Why an Open House, you ask? Why now? The Studio is celebrating it's latest cosmetic surgery and the installation of the Yamaha 02R recording console - a 48 input, digital mixing console with snapshot mix memory, 2 on board multi effects processors (equivalent to an SPX 900) and the capability of full automation with timecode feed and surround sound mixing! Look at our web site to see an updated picture taken by gifted photographer Tomiko Jones (silverspoon13@hotmail.com). (I cannot sing Tomiko's praises loud enough, and highly recommend her to anyone in need of professional photography!)

CUT OF THE MONTH is by JABON, and is the first piece this group has recorded in 6 years! "Simple as That" has been submitted for a Jandek tribute CD which will be released later this year. As always, let me know what you think...

ELIZABETH FALCONER took me at the Seattle Asian Art Museum auditorium for three days to record her new CD (Liz felt that the ambience of the auditorium was complimentary to her koto). This CD will be out by Memorial Day. Elizabeth's children's story CD - "Plum Boy" - is already available through kotoworld.com, and I'm quite pleased to have been a part of this wonderful collection of works.

ELAINE DIFALCO's FABRIC and I were at Wayne Horvitz's studio to track basics for Elaine's upcoming solo CD (we went to Wayne's for the great piano). Fred Chalenor (bass) and Will Dowd (drums) accompanied Elaine expertly on this outing.

Work comtinues on the JOHN FAHEY Fonotone reissue project - we are transferring and tweaking an enormous amount of Fahey's earliest recordings. Interesting, inspiring stuff, and it's coming out soon on Revanent.

MINUS (plus) were up from Corvallis, OR for a full day of improvisational tracking, with Fred Chalenor (plus) on bass. Theirs were moody beats similar to Neu! or Tortoise.

JOSH STEVENSON from the CAST EXOTIC ARCHIVES was down from BC to master a compilation of strange music from the likes of Glands of Eternal Secretions, Brian Ryuck, Stake Plains, Kopfende and others.

OTA PROTA are in the middle of mixing their full length CD that was recorded last month. Their blend of techno style beats with jazz flavor (maybe a bit of Santana?) is definately Thrill Jockey material. You've really got to see them live to comprehend how great they are.

Given all this, I'm trying to find a moment to sleep... but as you all know, sleep is for babies!

Cheers...
