Cut of the Month is by WATER KILL THE SUN. The song is called "Sleeping Pills and Oxycodone". I've already treated you to a cut from this record, but I think it's such a good album that I wanted o entice you again. On this cut I did something very clever that you would never notice unless told, so I'm telling you now. If you listen to the intro drum carefully, you'll hear the room mics are out of sync with the close mics, enough to cause a bit of a delay. By the end of the bar they come in sync. I thought it was a cool effect and just the sort of ear candy I look for. It was done by speeding up the room mic tracks, on just that section, about 1%. There you have it. Audio Wizardry and geekery in one paragraph.

The month started out with a mix project of a group called MAJOR CITIES. It's Joshua Dobson and he makes amazing indie rock that hints at ELO and NEW MUSIK. It's pop...yes, but has shades of modern production, lush vocal harmonies and gnarly analog synths. Really nice stuff. Hope you can hear it soon.

FEAR OF DOLLS stopped by to sequence additional material to their "Lullabys" CD for European release. Should be fun.

BEAST, PLEASE BE STILL tracked their debut CD. They are a huge group consisting of guitars, bass, drums, violin, woodwinds, brass, piano and electric wind instrument. They remind of Cerberus Shoal, but all instrumental, very dynamic, modern big band sound.

THIS BLINDING LIGHT stopped by to do a quick record. This band features members of Hypatia Lake and remind me of Spacemen 3 or Loop. Very loud, all encompassing psychedelic rock riffs.

BUH BLAM finished their ep of pop rock with the weird blanket. I would venture to say, influenced by Animal Collective on some songs, Bowie on other songs

FERAL CHILDREN tracked there new cd and man, what a treat! This band reminds me of Wire, Wall of Voodoo, Mark E Smith vocals sometimes, other times it's Joe Strummer. Yeah, we got your Clash, your Celtic influence, your Pavement even your Red C (look that band up!).

On a sad note, Jaye and I lost our beloved cat Spike to old age. He was 21 1/2 years old and we will miss him something fierce. He would frequently make the rounds through the studio and approve my mic positions. Most musicians who recorded here in the last 5 years were indelibly stamped by his cunning tricks of flesh ripping. A curmudgeon? yes, but also a lover. We will miss him.
