Greetings Earthlings!
This is a little late, so most of you have probably already listened to the
CUT OF THE MONTH (like the good little boys and girls you are). Having
done that, you would have heard SACHIKO M's tracks from an improv set with
SEAN MEEHAN. Don't be confused... your computer is not broken, that's
SACHIKO clicking and popping. Everybody dance!
DAVE RUSSELL finished his new record at the studio - a mixture of esoteric
pop and theatrical madness. Good songs, good band, good times.
I was in Los Angeles for a week in April a-hob nobbin' and wheelin'
dealin'. One of the highlights of that trip was an interview I completed
with Daniele Luppi for Mix Magazine. Daniele is an Italian film composer
who has recently released a solo record with the original band that played
all of Sergio Leone soundtracks composed by Morricone, as well as Nina
Rota's material for Fellini. I also met up with former Milan COO and
current CEO of Syn America for a little sushi and world domination
planning. Also, I cried at Amoeba in LA - it's just so huge!
The KEXP 90.3 broadcast mixes continue, and I enjoy them. You may have
heard my mixes of live music by PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES, THE CHURCH,
FIREWATER, and EDITH FROST. If not, you lose.
I just began a new project with FEAR OF DOLLS, a band which could be placed
in the dark ambient section but which also reminds me of Teenage Jesus and
the Jerks.
I was recently interviewed by Mr. Hotshot Bigwig Fancy Pants SOUND
PROJECTOR from the UK and am looking forward to reading what I babbled on
about for an hour and a half.
CLIMAX GOLDEN TWINS did a live performance of a soundtrack for the film
"Grass," which was shot in 1929 and chronicles the migration of a tribe of
people numbering 50,000 through the mountains of Persia (which was no walk
in the park, lemmetellya). We also had fun with a short cartoon soundtrack
for "He Resolves Not to Smoke".
I mastered a compilation album for Anomalous Records titled "Electrically
Induced Vibrations," which is an answer to last year's environmental
compilation (and to some people's loneliness).
CHRISTIAN and MIHO's MALLET JAZZ recorded a gig demo of their traditional
jazz for bass, drum set, marimba and Vibes. Very cool, very classy, very good!
Mark Arm picked up the master for the new Mudhoney record we recorded a bit
earlier (three pieces for their upcoming monster smash hit). We also
managed to mangle a bit of sound to flesh out the end of the record while
he was there. Look for my name in the article on rollingstone.com (it's
there, I tell you).
ALAN BISHOP invaded my space for some Alvarius B material of (al)various
destinations, including a collaborative effort with Dylan of Chocolate
Monk, and a cover of a song I always refer to as Tarpigh, but that's not
the group's name. The cut, like, totally rules. It sounds like Lee
Hazelwood with Caroliner Rainbow Spiked Needle Soup with Tasty Curds and Whey.
Ship Ahoy!
