BOOM! ZzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzZZZZZZ Pop!
CUT OF THE MONTH is an edited version of Alvarius B's cover of Cerberus
Shoal's "Dink". Remember I told you it sounded like Lee Hazelwood with
Caroliner Rainbow Choir Screaming Nighcrawlers and Angel Toes? Well, it's
true - see for yourself.
I had fun working some amazing in-studio broadcasts with DOVES, LUNA and
BOXSTEP on KEXP last month.
Work continues on the ORNETTE COLEMAN project for Revenant: I'm staring at
over 75 hours of material right now. (See? It's not ALL wild parties and
glamor.)
HECHICEROS were in to mix their modern Cumbia music, which sounds so much
like Reggae to me that I did a dub mix of one of their songs "Somas
Chavos." 'Twas fun.
I did a little editing on 3 STARS' recording of his "Country Road" act that
can be seen at the Pike Place Market. It's made up of classic country
tunes by Duane Eddy, Hank Williams, Eddy Arnold, Merle Haggard and the
like. Head down and take a look/have a listen.
JAZZSTRINGS stopped by for a mastering session of their old time,
depression era smooth jazz.
MUDHONEY did double duty by recording a cover of Alice Cooper's "Long Way
to Go," which will be on both the B-side to their European single and will
also be included on a forthcoming Alice Cooper tribute comp titled "Love it
to Death".
ROBIN FOYE demoed out her fantabulous voice before skipping town to hit Las
Vegas. She promised to come back once she's made her first "mil".
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESSMEN started mixing their new record of classic punk
rock, SoCal style. They will be doing a west coast tour (what else) later
this year.
BRIDGET ST. JOHN started recording a few new pieces for piano and
voice. More pop with a Disney feel (in a good way).
FAITH AND DISEASE worked feverishly on mixing their new record, which is
due out on Projeckt Records early next year. Their sound has become
Opal-esque, or Mazzy Star-ish - very nice, and one of the best drum sounds
I've gotten in a long time.
AND I FINALLY acquired "scottcolburn.com" after waiting three years for
mean ol' Max Garza to let it expire. He wanted to sell it to me for $500
(!) several years, but I said, "Burn in hell, old man!" (Whodathunk he'd
actually DO it...?!)
Don't blow your bad selves up now, eh?
