Speaking of the Fourth of July, didn't America fight Brittain off because
of taxation? And WHAT are our tax-rates now? And WHAT do they go for?
And HOW much control do we actually have over how many taxes we pay and how
they are spent? Just wondering... Anyways...Happy New Year
Cut of the Month is the Young Composers Collective (YCC) recording, which I
mentioned briefly last month. YCC is a 12-17 piece orchestra comprised of,
well... young composers - young incredibly talented, most gifted composers!
- and with whom I am also honored to share a work space. We recorded the
first half of their music for "SCREAM! Lion Dogs" (the play which was
performed at On the Boards Theater earlier this year), last month. As it
happens, I will be mixing the live broadcast of this music which will air
July 4th (today) at 10pm (yep! during the fireworks) on KNDD (the End)
107.7 FM, so if you're within hearing range... I don't believe that the
broadcast is meant to sync-up with the firworks, but it will be fun to
listen to at the time, nonetheless. Those of you outside of Seattle _may_
be able to hear it if KNDD broadcasts on the 'net - let me know if you
tuned in.
Speaking of locals, Jesse Paul Miller was in the studio for a brief time
last week creating a CD to accompany his installation at SOIL Gallery.
This next installation of his is called "The Invisible Hand" and runs
through the month of July. Go check it out!
Tucker Martine and I finished work on an Andrew Drury solo CD last month,
which is untitled and unlabeled at this point but still a source of pride
for us all. Andrew's music is percussion-based and expertly processed by
Martine. Some smart label will be picking it up.
The Climax Golden Twins have started tracking their analog rock music using
the 1" 16 track to full advantage. We are utilizing every wild and wacky
micing technique we have ever heard of or can create/imagine for this
project, and have invented some rather enviable sounds, as a result! Tchad
Blake, eat your heart out!!
Kyle Hansen was in the studio recording the soundtrack for a film by Laura
Cronin called "John Gill". The trailer for this film premiered at the
Gay/Lesbian Film Festival several months ago with a soundtrack by The
Climax Golden Twins; the finished product, however, will feature Kyle
Hansen's soundtrack. (Kyle is the co-leader of Black Cat Orchestra, along
with Lori Goldston.)
Duane Rubinowitz finished mixing on his project called "Sandwhich People".
A Cut of the Month is planned for this Zappa influenced madness - stay
tuned....
Matt Lubetich was in for a short narration recording for C-Stop, which is
an industrial video that Big Twenty Productions is working on. You probably
won't see this training film, but rest assured that the voice-over has been
quality recorded by Colburn! (I have spoken!)
Finally, Soul Garden Music hired me recently to do a remote recording of
improvisational music for the second disc of their two-disc set called
"Rumi-Fountain of Fire" by Nader Khalili (as read by Qalbi). This
recording was produced by Sura Charlier (sax and flute), with David Brunn
(tabla, percussion), Lori Goldston (cello) and Aleksandr Eppler (cimbalom,
bulgarian tambura). This will be the musical companion to a book by the
same name, and should be available through amazon.com by the end of this
summer ("summer"... what a concept!)
Until August (when I hope to have seen the sun at least once since last
November)...
