I quit my day job!
Cut of the Month is Ota-Prota who are currently performing a live musical
soundtrack for the Millenium Circus as portrayed by UMO (the cut you can
access from my website is a studio version of the UMO soundtrack).
Ota-Prota has released two EPs so far, and KCMU plays them regularly. I
hope to record more of them in the future.
The web page has been updated to include an online 360 degree animated gifs
tour of the studio (under Studio Specs). Check it out!
Speakng of ultra-hot Seattle bands, Leatherboy was in to record a song for
a split single with the Kent 3 as part of a new issue of Multiball.
Leatherboy was also graced with a wonderful review in the Rocket a few
issues back (just tellin' it like it is), in which the reviewer stated that
if you complain about the lack of good bands "these days", your head is up
your ass because you've been missing this group all along. So THERE!
My esteemed collegue Tucker Martine edited his field recording from Mali at
my studio this month. We worked many hours trying to sequence his amazing
collection of music from this little known African country. Oddly, there
was a hum which appeared occasionally in some of the tracks, and Tucker
still doesn't know where it came from. It sounds like 60 cycle hum, but he
was three days from the nearest electricity! Since he recorded it in the
Dogon territory, I suggested that it may be the mothership checking in.
Climax Golden Twins are still tracking their rock album, which will shit in
your bed and leave early when they're done with it.
Some of you have written to inquire about the Climax Golden Twins live
cassette series, so let me tell you all that they are being reissued on 10"
vinyl records. The first volume is actually out already, but it is an
extremely limited release, so scramble! Check your local store, or deal
with anomalous records directly at www.anomalousrecords.com.
Wicker Palate was in the studio again to mix a new album's worth of beats.
A cut from the first album is still available as a real audio stream on the
gravelvoice web page, fyi.
Chris Eckman pent a few days editing and sequencing his upcoming solo
album, which will be released by Glitterhouse in Germany. Chris and Carla
have also edited a live CD of their duets, as well as a live CD of
Walkabouts material (which will only be available at their live shows in
Europe, darn it all to heck).
The Nuns of Chester recorded a an interesting processional - it was
performed in the round, kind of like Row Row Your Boat. This recording
utilized the Acoustic Mirror, which allows you to place your sound source
into an acoustic space. It's not reverb, it's actually a computer model of
the characteristics of a given room. Cool, huh? It works quite well and
was very interesting to work on. More on this tweaked recording later.
Lincoln Briney edited and sequenced a new demo of somber and soothing
material for release. It's great feel good music - very relaxing, perfect
Seattle music.
Ho-hum... otherwise, it's just another perfect 80 degree day here in
blue-skied Seattle...
