Cut of the Month is MIRACLE CHOSUKE, because everyone I play it for goes
mental over it. Get this: 5 songs, 7 1/2 minutes! This band is like the
Brainiacs/ Screamers/ Gang of Four. It's brilliant and will get your head
a-bobbin, so check it out. It will be pressed in a 7" vinyl record soon.
ELIZABETH FALCONER and AIKO SHIMADA were in to record an album of Japanese
Lullabys this month. Sung in Japanese and accompanied by koto, these
lullabys will nudge you into a blissful, careless sleep. You'll be amazed
by the perfect blend of Elizabeth's koto playing and Aiko's great voice - I
can't believe these two haven't collaborated before!
SUSAN ROBB stopped by to mix a piece for the "Bed of Sound" installation
currently shown at the Henry Art Gallery here in Seattle. A while back I
had told you about a piece by Ellen Fullman that was featured in an
installation at PS1 in NYC; this is that same installation. The "Bed of
Sound" consists of a huuuge futon ringed by multiple headphones which each
play a different piece from about 30 artists, including The Residents, Cibo
Mata, Vernon Reid, Frank Rothkamm, Sonic Youth, etc. Susan's installation
- mixed by Gravelvoice - is "off the bed". Jesse Paul Miller also has an
accompanying piece, by the way. The "Bed of Sound" will shown through the
month, so if you have a chance...
If you happen to be here in the United States on August 17th, come to
Rendezvous here in Seattle to join the release party celebrating CLIMAX
GOLDEN TWINS' new CD. This will be a rock and roll show, and there might
even be some roll and rock. We have each been practicing all three chords
really hard, and plan for this to be an evening of dumbness, stupidity,
sweat and retardation. What more can you ask for?
Whether or not you are fortunate enough to make it to the release party,
come see CGT open for Mudhoney on Sept 7th at Graceland. They'll be
serving up a cafe au lait of electronics and butt rock.
In other CLIMAX news, "Session 9" opened in NYC, Boston and LA this week.
The soundtrack - which is MUCH better than the film (and the critics are
noting that fact, thankyoueversofuckingmuch!) - will be available on Milan
Records at the end of the month. This is *not* rock music, but rather the
sort of electronic nonsense you expect from us and love so much.
Otherwise, big things a-brewing... oh, yes!...
