Cut of the Month is LAURIE KATHERINE CARLSSON - "Flight" from her EP
I recorded earlier this summer. Her brand of perfect pop with pitch
perfect vocals, acoustic guitar, swarmy organ, bass and drums is a
perfect end of summer soundtrack for this slightly unperfect summer
(weather-wise)<wbr>. I guess it's just going to keep getting hotter as
long as I keep recording great music.
Early last month I did a few days at Soundhouse Studios with the TOM
BAKER QUARTET. What a great collection of modern jazz songs with
guitar, bass, clarinet and drums. These songs will be mixed soon.
I also did a short and sweet session with GHOST LOBBY which features
Tara from Water Kill the Sun on guitar and vocals this time around.
Their brand of indie pop really kicks my ass. Tara's voice is
supported elegantly by the indie rock sounds of a well rehearsed band
with a super tight rhythm section and keys. A real pleasure if even
just for a weekend.
The big project this month was HOUSE ON A HILL! This is their 3rd
record. I hear hints of Meat Puppets in the finger picked guitar and
notey compositions. Sometimes the faster numbers remind of Minutemen,
but they also have a heavier sections that explode with a solid
hammer to the face. The vocals remind me of the Pretenders. This is a
really fantastic record and I can't wait for you to hear it and for
you to see them.
