If there is one thing that you can rely on, it is that things change
(sometimes quite suddenly and unexpectedly) - I am now teaching Intro to
Audio and Digital Editing part time at the Art Institute of Seattle! Guess
I really AM a professor. I've also been contracted with Real Networks for
the last couple of weeks encoding the concerts they recorded from
Bumpershoot (a four day music festival here in Seattle). The trick is to
be able to listen to two live shows at once - try THAT in your dad's
Olsmobile!
Cut Of The Month is First Hand, who have recently completed a year-long
journey of serious album production. Their music is simple and beautiful,
the lyrics are poetry... Check it out!
Ota Prota were in finishing another ep's worth of material which is a
modern melding of rock, jazz, ambient, latin, dub and psychedelia. See
them live if you get a chance - imagine cello, trumpet, bass, electric
guitar, drum kit, percussion and samples creating layer upon layer of
modern jazz damage.
Lori Goldston was in to record a television PSA soundtrack for the Seattle
Parks Department, which consists mostly of cello with a sprinkling of
percussion and erhu. Hard to describe, yet fitting to the images of
wildlife found in Washington Parks.
I did a bit of final sound design tweaking on Matt Lubetich's film
"Redemption". Richard Valentine directed this 108 minute story which
follows the trials and tribulations of a junkie/prositute love affair and
their hardships dealing with bad decisions. A powerful film, to be sure!
Climax Golden Twins have also been working in the sound design department,
creating sound effects and music for the film "Drink Me", which is the
story of a confused loser who resides in a church with pitifully low
attendence. He trys to help a church goer find her lost child and is
thrown into a weird world that only David Lynch would understand (and only
the Climax Golden Twins could score).
In the new releases department:
By reading this you are probably already too late to get the second edition
of the Climax Golden Twins live 10" series, which is due out in November
(sources at Anomalous Records tell me that the 2nd edition is already sold
out).
Also on Anomalous, the Dave Knott CD which I mastered is finally released.
A release party is scheduled at Wall of Sound for October 15th.
I mentioned a few updates back about a live recording I did of Rumi poetry
with musical accompaniment - this recording is part of a two-disc set
released by Soul Garden Music.
Look for the new issue of Tape Op with my article on Black Flag's "My War".
And with that, adieu.
