Last month was so packed I had to suspend construction on my studio.
But let's brighten things up a bit by presenting the Cut of The Month
by COMBO DE LUXE - "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams". This CD has just
been released with their brand of classic New Orleans jazz and cool
songs from the 20's. They are a bass, banjo, cornet and sax combo
that is ultra cool. Listen in.
I was able to slide in a mastering session for a group of Portland
musicians (Andrew Dewar, Bryan Eubanks, David Hirvonen and Leif
Sundstrom) of a live recording at TLC. We nabbed about 20 minutes of
material either for a 3" cd or on vinyl. I'm pushing for the highly
experimental vinyl.
Jaye and I acted in a feature film called STEALING RICH which is
being shot by Faster Disaster's Stephan Goodlad and stars artist
extraordinare Rich Lehl and his wife Sarah. Jaye and I played Rich's
parents under guise of nylon stockings. I was covered in blood most
of the day since I was butchering a cow in the kitchen while Jaye
nervously thumped the bible. Acting!!
Continuing with the film theme of November, I finished sound design
on Jeremy Carr's short called ICE CREAM ANTS. More info at
http://www.crutchfilms.com It's the story of man known only as Lover,
thrust into a world of surreal nightmares and weird characters while
the skipping record endlessly personifies his life (or dreams?)
Linas Phillips and Dayna Hansen were in for a long stint as I did
sound design for their feature WALKING TO WERNER which is
documentary/ story of Linas' walk from Seattle to Los Angels to meet
Werner Herzog. The film shows all the innkeepers, travelers, weirdos
and born again Christians that life on the road brings out. A
fascinating journey and a truly inspiring film of courage and
strength shot entirely on location along the 101 which follows the
beautiful west coast of Washington, Oregon and California. More info

Once that page loads, select PODCASTS where it says "Choose Genre".
When that page loads, you'll see a search bar a little ways down the
page above where it says "Search all Podcasts".
Type in KEXP.

After that you're subscribed and you will get _any_ KEXP podcast that
is created when you open ITunes. They publish one about every two weeks.
I forgot to mention last month that Rolling stone not only gave the
Animal Collective a three star review, but it also gave the American
Primitives Volume 2 CD a four star review. That's 7 stars! that's
pretty hot! You will also see the latest Climax Golden Twins CD in
ArtForum listed as one of the years 10 best. AND And and, Fader
magazine did a short profile on "Walking to Werner".
