WANT ME TO GO BYE-BYE?
Seriously... if you want to be removed from this mailling list,
just return this email to me. Simple and painless.
EARLY UPDATES
I have a special request -- If anyone has been insane enough to
save some of the earliest updates, I would like copies of them for
my web archives. (Slight oversight there on my part.)
SECRET RECORDS WEB SITE
It's been a long time since my last Update - take a look at
www.scottcolburn.com/secret to see why! Doesn't it look nice?
Special thanks to Spencer Sundell who saved me from premature
baldness by designing the site. This site is the beginning of the
Secret Records art gallery and coincides with the installation of
artist Jesse Paul Miller's Secret Records at the Seattle Art
Museum. The web page is designed to give people access to this
intriguing project regardless of where they might be. Jesse's
records are cast from found vinyl records in epoxy resin, and found
objects are layered in the translucent epoxy as it sets. Each
secret record is unique in appearance and source mold. This site
also gives the viewer the bonus of being able to hear the records
(with their inverted grooves) play (with the help of RealAudio)
which is something you can not do in a gallery.
CLIMAX GOLDEN TWINS
The Climax Golden Twins are releasing a 7" of recordings of these
Secret Records. We finished the editing on this project in
October, and it is now at the pressing plant. We will be offering
an artist's edition, complete with a Secret Record art piece and
7", as well as a regular issue. The Climax Golden Twins have also
finished editing their "locations" project, which is a full length
CD to be released by Fire Breathing Turtle early in 1998. This CD
is composed of location recordings from all over the world woven
into a fabric which will transport the listener to other lands
(both familiar and unfamiliar). It's quite a piece!
SUN CITY GIRLS
On the Sun City Girls front, Rick Bishop (guitar) has just finished
a solo project for the Revenant label which is mostly solo guitar
recordings and one piano piece. This work is a masterful study in
improvisation with usual touches of Django, India and other gypsy
musics. Alan Bishop has just completed his second solo release as
Alvarius B, which will be a double vinyl gatefold LP set of wooden
guitar with vocal pieces. I will be extremely busy throughout
December and January as the Sun City Girls have moved in for two
months to do tracking for their next few records. I will update
you about this as things happen. We have already recorded seven
reels of tape!!
OTHER PROJECTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Leatherboy was in for a marathon session of 14 songs recorded,
mixed and mastered in 1 day. ONE DAY!! Leatherboy reminds me of
the Bassholes CD I mastered recently -guitar, drums and vocals
create catchy distorto tunes that make you smile and bob your
head.
Elizabeth Falconer was in with Lori Goldston for a recording of
cello and koto duets for Elizabeth's duets project. Projects
almost complete are the Eyvind Kang Tzadik CD "Theater of Mineral
NADE's", which is the followup to "7 NADE's" from several years
ago. This CD features an all-star cast performing Kang
kompositions of many styles of music from reggae to
renaissance.
Brent Arnold is working on his release for RGI with compositions
for strings and electronics.
Now if you will excuse me...they are showing "One Foot in the
Grave" on PBS again. I'm also making observations on a new form of
music hitting the street...engineer-core!
